Heavy metal ‘a comfort for the bright child’

Heavy metal ‘a comfort for the bright child’

By Nic Fleming, Science Correspondent (taken from the telegraph.co.uk)

Intelligent teenagers often listen to heavy metal music to cope with the pressures associated with being talented, according to research.

The results of a study of more than 1,000 of the brightest five per cent of young people will come as relief to parents whose offspring, usually long-haired, are devotees of Iron Maiden, AC/DC and their musical descendants.

Researchers found that, far from being a sign of delinquency and poor academic ability, many adolescent “metalheads” are extremely bright and often use the music to help them deal with the stresses and strains of being gifted social outsiders.

Stuart Cadwallader, a psychologist at the University of Warwick, will present the findings at the British Psychological Society conference in York today.

He said: “There is a perception of gifted and talented students as being into classical music and spending a lot of time reading. I think that is an inaccurate stereotype. There is literature that links heavy metal to poor academic performance and delinquency but we found a group that contradicts that.

“We are looking at a group with lower than average self-esteem that does not feel quite as well adjusted. They feel more stressed out and turn to heavy metal as a way of relieving that stress.

tg. aru beach

i was thinking a bit here and there these past few weeks. i was thinking of working in a tourism field. i always have ideas more on tourism; how to promote, how to improve, how to maintain, etc. i want to work for sabah tourism. if there is one la. i might need helps from friends.. anyone? is there anyone can help me to get in there hehe.

i wonder why there is no action is taken to preserve tg. aru beach? it a very well known spot bah even in the eye of the world not just for our domestic tourist. heran betul saya. is it so hard to build shower booths for refreshment after a dive in the sea? or is it so hard to trashing the trashes in trash bins?

i remember well when i was a little kid living near the beach, my cousins and i always walked down the there nearly every day just to play with the white sand and sometimes to see jellyfish. we always ended with wet clothes but now, haiya… mo masuk air pun sa geli. kotor gila. even the jellyfish rarely surface on the beach nowadays, let alone those beautiful fishes. it’s a shame.

i rather have the old tg. aru stalls than the newly ‘dedicated for sabahan’ commersial stalls. the place is too dirty and i don’t really like it. i always get dizzy when i go buy snacks. i seldom drink and eat anything there. i just dont find that place is enjoyable to stay around. i kinda hate those coconut shells they gathered in one spot, they give bad odor. management for that place is kinda bad. really really bad. i dont really need to spit it out why foreign tourist dislike that place.. i think you know now.

i havent been to tg aru quite some time. i wonder if there still parrots and those little colourful birds there. they used to be a lot if im not mistaken. is there any left?

i have a lot of good memories back then with tg. aru beach. why there isn’t any nowadays? would you guys mind to preserve tg. aru beach? btw, help me if any of you know how am i going go to have a go for sabah tourism or anything along  with it.

a little bit of malaysian

so i went to this Chinese restaurant today around 4. a very old looking restaurant here in fohsang. not that old actually but i guess things faded out quickly nowadays or perhaps, it just looks pretty good that way. who knows. it’s the place where old folks come together to have drinks and chitchats, anyway. i’d find it funny if they went to burger king or McDonald, instead.

so i was eating my meal and looking around. kinda shocked a little when i found out that the uncle next to my table speaks malay. he was alone at first then came this chinese elder (one who sells lottery coupons) sat next to him and chitchatted. really, he looked sooooooooooo very chinese, im telling you, but instead, he’s a dusun or kadazan or whatever suits him. i got fooled a bit there.  this chinese uncle was also unique. he spoke malay like nothing bothers the world, was like drinking plain water. sap sap sui. It’s very rare to see a chinese who speaks malay like a pure malay. the only one i knew best is aseng. for one to be able to speaks malay so fluently,  still i find it uberly rare.

then came an uncle. he came and walk directly to the cooling box asking for a warm beer. i was like .. wow. warm beer on a very warmy sunny day. i thought it is best to have a very chilled one. he sat at the edge of the restaurant and wondering while looking at the pedesterians walking around. soon, asking for another warm beer.

later on 2 uncles came. they sat next to me. these dudes were the ones who made my day. the taukey is a 20ish Chinese kid came for the order and this uncle’s order was “saya mau .. hari hari mau” and the reply was “hari hari mau ka? ada ada!!”. i was like .. wow. both were chinese and they exchanged words in malay while in a chinese restaurant. it’s just .. wow. i guess beer makes everyone malaysian ya. haha. should everyone drink beer for the sake of peace.

now a little bit of the newly elected president obama of united states of america. congratulation for being the first black american to be elected that prestigious seat. it should be a good sign for races based idealogy. may he be the spark to tear apart every wall of racism. i heard he’s a muslim? is that so? if it’s true then it’s rather a good news. first black american and a muslim elected to be the next president of USA. wow. that should conclude a revolution. im a christian and nothing bad about that. may the world starts to appreciate peace and harmony. but im not so sure about his religion, though. sorry if i got the wrong infomation.

should Malaysian learn from the people of America. i think you know what i mean. if not, learn how to learn, at least.

happy malaysia day

please accept my deepest apologize for my late wish regarding on this. i was about to blog it early in the morning but i had another matter to settle with. anyway, HAPPY MALAYSIA DAY. Sept 16, the new beginning of a new era, i must say. An era of a new dawn of malaysia; a new hope and prosperity.

Malaysia day is everywhere for some reason. Just like the ordinary yet with a more lively patriotic value. Everywhere you go, people will speak out of it, taking it into another level of understanding; politically and historically, a long gone piece of history, a formation of men of a greater nation called Malaysia. it has been how long? 45 years?… just to be aware that we are all but malaysians?

better late than never, they say. it’s nice to see some changes. you and i are in an equal context, men of the same independent nation. so why should we have a huge gap of differences? there is no need of denial of races, religions, skin colours, cultures, etc. we are all but 1, malaysian, a mixture of islam, christian, hindu, buddha, malay, chinese, indian, sabahan, sarawakian, etc. We are one upon all.

wouldn’t it be nice to have a chinese who can speak indian and malay, or a sabahan who can speak the tounge of a chinese or an indian? would you mind to have that tounge to be able to speak a lot of different languages? i wouldn’t mind if you ask me. we are special people, a rare breed kind of people. we have a lot more to learn from each others, then why shouldn’t us? i have chinese and also indian friends while having countless malay numbers. it’s pretty cool, don’t you think so?

i hope the new coming era will be an era of understanding each other and working together side by side peacefully and harmony. May this year’s Malaysia Day brings you good reasons to be a Malaysian.

revolution of mind: political intelligence pt. 2

i was replying a comment in my previous entry wrote by jeffrie. again. thanks. it was a very long written reply so i end up posting it as a new entry. read my previous entry entitle revolution of mind: political intelligence for further info.

yup, i agreed to the comment written by jeffrie, though, i have some feedbacks i would like to write about. here goes.

there’s another point of why bn having a big win over sabah and sarawak. bare in mind that before the GE non of us ever thought that 5 states in the peninsular will be taken over by the PR and i must say, during that period of time, not many of us sabahan really have that desire to push back the umno regime out of sabahan political scene like the western brothers desperately did in the peninsular. don’t you agree?

what i mean is, name me a party here in sabah that really have what it takes to chop down that bn flag?

sabahan had fought a war against the big bn regime once and failed. remember why Dr.Jeffry was sentence to 20 yrs of prison? among them maybe were my dad, mom, relatives and all, and i strongly think it was supported by your family too but history was written so clear that they, along together with our past leaders, were totally outdone by the bn war machine and the outcome of that incident is an undeveloped piece of land called sabah, land below the wind.

what most of us sabahans want is a developed state which offers more working vacancies, education, medical support and so fort. you can name them as many as you like because we do lack a lot and perhaps, we don’t even have some of the good things offered in some places like k.l, j.b, penang, or even labuan. do u think that by having the bn regime to govern this state can us achieve such attention? infact, they are the one holding the budgetary to choose to or not to channel cash flow to develop places.

of course we want a change but like i said before, the fire that anwar ibrahim started in the peninsular had never really reach this borneo island.

as a second man in the Sabah PKR camp, Dr, Jeffry was luckily to escape death before the GE as he was involved in a car accident before that. he was in a critical stage to start with. Admit this, there’s no anwar ibrahim’s alike here to start that sort of revolution, thus, not many of us dare to take that path twice but later on, when we saw the possibilities of winning, it was already too late. it vanished in thin air.

here’s another possibility why bn can easily take control of this state. tell me, did you or did you not see the same faces that ‘proclaim’ to be the betting horses to run this state? for most of sabahan, those faces are among the best, if not the best, this state can offer them. like i said, if there’s an anwar ibrahim’s alike born sabahan, do you think this scenario will dramatically change? yes, maybe yet we can’t really say it’s for sure.

but worry not. sabah is now one of the key players of a better nation thanks for the GE. we are one of the highlights not because we have more bn-jumping-sinking-ship agenda, but as a whole, we are breeding a new political intelligence regarding on future benefits. the people’s power is somehow planted and rapidly growing in the minds of young generations. it will spread cancerously from generation to generations. like what i’ve wrote before in my previous entry, this is an education. we learn.

sabah will produce leaders of young and energetic with more additional good features, and for the old ones… your time is running out. history will be changed by erasing most of their failures. we will have our own anwar ibrahim born sabahan. so, don’t loosen that grip of hope, not yet.

i don’t want to write crap regarding on our sick political thingy with all the vote buying or phantom voters or anything like that because it’s already written in ‘our’ own history book. we’ll remember it and it will be passed down. politic is just another legal way of selling lies, just so you know. it sucks.

but it’s good to talk about better future and such. it attracts positive things to happen and hopefully, it gives us a better politician born sabahan in the nearest future. it might just be you, jeff. who knows.

night time picnic at the beach

last night was a very enjoyable picnic. NIGHT TIME picnic a at the beach hahaha. it was a very spontaneous chill out, though. Sadly, we didn’t had a bone fire. i thought we might get some woods to burn but then, there’s NOTHING. But still, it’s cool. Had some wine, tia maria, a couple of beers and snacks, enough to heat up the atmosphere. that was golden. We laugh, we sing and we had fun. we should do it more outing at the beach.

4 wishes to be granted as i had my 4 shooting stars.

revolution of mind: political intelligence

im replying to jefferi’s comment in my previous entry.

i wonder the purpose and reason again for Jeffery using PKR this issue. i had been listening him talk and argue about the special autonomy rights and some other issues but had done nothing to act. maybe he can’t do anything about it. thou, once upon a time, Jeffery Kitingan has the power to make a changes to this states and he choose to keep silent and do nothing. now, he pretended to fight this issue again and i hope that the people will not again be fooled into this cheap shot scam.

seriously, i think the sabahan don’t even dare to fight for the rights of their states and let others like PKR and DAP to fight something they don’t belong. no matter they win or not, the people of the sabah state is the losing party because they don’t dare to lead and be example to the people state and stand for what they deserved and promised long time ago.

malayan boleh!
sabahan tidak boleh (

yup jefferi dude, you are right at 1 point of having PKR or DAP to fight for our right but then again, it’s a new revolution out there, not just to eliminate the one heavy weight corrupted ruling regime but also to give birth to a new political ideology which i think will be shaping our nation’s political landscape in the nearest future, and this will keep on revolutionize even further in the coming future not just to the western brothers but also here in sabah.

every new things come from a very slight spark, don’t you think? That little spark started by our western brothers and is now spreading to the entire nation, is enough to start a hell of flame of new ideas of how things should and shouldn’t be done and this i’m telling you, it will continue to be practice by generation of generations. It’s a new beginning and a very good one. A new era of political intelligence.

For a start, this political turmoil in malaysia as a whole will give birth to a group people, yes, it won’t be in a sum of millions but it’s enough to give rise to a new intellectual mindset of awareness not just in term of political understanding but all. Every little inch counts.

and with this, it will give birth to another frontier of ‘walking together side by side’ with others and hopefully it will lead us to a nation with no ‘Berlin wall’ of races, religion differences, languages, cultures and so fort.

i don’t really bother if you are a muslim and im a christian. if by religion you cannot celebrate Christmas then welcome to my house fellow friends of muslims, Buddhist, hindus and all, i will feed you with foods and drinks. let’s celebrate it together. after all, we are one, just a little difference in understanding of teachings i say, more or less, it’s the same basic teaching, to become a very good person. so get done with it, it’s your responsibility.

we cannot turn back the time to resurrect the dead and we should stop with the ‘if’ possibilities. Sabah has long died before i was even born. our past leaders think nothing much to develop this state but more into making their own piggy banks full and the disease was carried down from generation to generation til this very day. it’s good that someone like Dr. Jeffry K. still mentioning some old school issues. of course everyone knows it’s nothing more than just a political act but if you take it in to a different level of understanding then i should say, thanks for his acts that many of us are now woken up from that deep sleep which has and always holding you back to for a very long time. it’s time to relive the dusty ideology of a better Sabah, in whatever means to you.

like i said before, revolution of mind don’t start as easy as 123 or ABC. it need a spark. it’s good that PKR and DAP are the main forces to ‘fight’ for our sabahan right for this time being. im not saying that they should be the main players to govern this state or anything like that, but to make it simple, they are the main forces to give rise to a revolution and kicking butt to a sum of people in this state to be more aware and alert to future circumstances.

We can always give birth to another political party here in sabah, be it  ABC party, OKPU, SBP, etc. but can they do better than the previous ones? We already have more than enough political party here, do we really need another hero? more importantly, can they light up a spark of revolution? Revolution of mind, that is.

thus, i won’t say that sabah will be the losing party even if the DAP or PKR are the winning party to govern Malaysia but it’s the silent revolution of mind within every sabahan that we should look at the most. it’s an important and precious peice of gain. that’s what i like about this political sicknesses, it’s an education, i must say. So sabahan, this is a learning process, digest it to the fullest and now, run wild with this new found joy. We can reshape this beautiful state as it once before, a pearl.

rise, fall down, and rise again.

this is why sept 16 must be declared a holiday

(Daily Express) - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) said implications for Sabah and Sarawak to accept Malaya’s independence date (Aug 31, 1957) as Malaysia’s Independence Day is to deny and distort the facts of history and to disregard the importance of Sabah’s own independence from Britain.

“Sabah and Sarawak are not part of Malaya, neither did we join Malaysia.

Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and Malaya (all independent state entities) came together to merge and form a Federal Government to govern a federated nation called Malaysia.

Such a nation was only formalised and declared on Sept. 16, 1963,” said PKR Vice President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

According to him, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Barisan Nasional (BN) must decide whether Sarawak and Sabah are important variables in the Malaysia equation or only Malaya is.

“If yes, then Sept 16 should be declared a public holiday,” he said, pointing out that he disagreed with Najib’s reasoning for rejecting Sept 16 as a public holiday. “Sabah and Sarawak had nothing to do with Malaya’s Independence in 1957 so why should we be forced to mark that day?,” he asked.

September 16 should be Malaysia’s National Day as that is the day Malaysia was born and it is more meaningful as Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula are featured together on this date.

“If we really want to promote national unity and territorial integration, we can then share and celebrate a common date or anniversary. That being the case, Sept 16 should be declared a national holiday,” he said.

As for Aug 31, he said it can be celebrated separately as Independence Day for the peninsula (1957) and Sabah and Sarawak (1963) as the years are different.

“Celebrating Malaysian Independence on Aug 31, 1957 does not make sense for two reasons namely, Malaysia only existed in 1963 and Sabah and Sarawak have no feeling of affinity or connection to 1957,” he said.

————————————————————————————————————————

i guess not many of us really know what’s the meaning behind the Sept 16 eh. how much has history change to the course of one’s benefits and the only remaining fact is ‘we are not yet free from the hands of imperial’. sabah is a free nation yet tied under the ruling dictactorship of malaya. malaysia is a federation same like the European Union, should non of the countries govern someone else’s. Only in the federation of malaysia can a country to be striped down to become a state and absorbed under one united flag. did i just write ‘united’? how pity are we.
