Sound of the great Gong
I was watching a video published by santionperak in youtube which I embeded it in Sabahantv.com entitled Inside North Borneo and I realized that the gong playing is much of Kadus beats. Correct me if Im wrong but I grow up in a Murut camp so I still have that Murut beats in my ears to compare to the ones in the video.
It’s a good thing that we are having that diversity but what’s sadden me is that the great gong sounding is now slowly disappearing in time. People are getting modernize with all the new stuff and technologies, more into the African-american culture which is more and more overwrites our own cultures and lots of the kids nowadays are applying the American way of lifestyles, cultivating the destruction of our own culture. I’m not blaming on it, though. I’m just saying that many of us intend to forget to live up the greatness, the wonderful and beautiful inheritance from the past.
Not many of us can play the gong like the elders. I’m not saying that I’m good at it but I can still play it but that’s not what I intend to pinpoint here. I hope that this gong thingy won’t disappeared and people will keep on playing it. I like it a lot. I’ve been listening to it since I was a little kid for almost every occasion I’ve been to. So I don’t feel like missing it in any day.
For those people who have the chance to come across with any gong playing, please record it and embed it in sabahantv.com because I would like to enjoy it in every way I can before it’s truley gone. I, myself, would try to get as much as I can to share with all of you the greatness of our own culture not to border it only for kadus or murut but to all sabahan cultures. So let us all work together to full fill that dream, alright.
And now is the month of kaamatan ya, so there will be a lot of events out there. Don’t forget to record some of the good stuff because we are a year older to another culture extinction.
Here is the video I was referring at the beginning of this post: http://sabahantv.com/santoinperak/inside-north-borneo-video_e93fdd20f.html
There are a lot of videos in there so do enjoy your stay, ok. Much love and thanks.
